About Us

OUR STORY

What started out of the Oliver Gospel Mission in downtown Columbia was organized into the First Church of the Nazarene in 1934.  In the Granby Village where the Gamecocks baseball stadium stands today, a group of humble Christ-followers were excited about the possibilities of what God might do through them.  It was from the mill district that the mission of First Church began reaching the lost and the least with a message of hope.  We still believe that sin doesn't have the last word, but through grace, and the power of the Holy Spirit we can be set free.

Our location changed in the 1970's to the developing St. Andrews area and we have had many programs come and go, but our message has remained the same.  We still have that radical optimism of grace.  In fact we believe our best days are ahead of us.  We are grateful for our past, but are excited about what is happening now and what will happen in the days and months to come.  If you have come to check us out online before visiting us in person, may this serve as your invitation to join us.  We would love to have the opportunity to welcome you into our family of faith.
